Teen Poetry Contest
The Teen Library is accepting submissions for their annual Teen Poetry Contest! Submissions will be accepted April 1- April 30, 2015. Entries can either be dropped off at The Teen Library or submitted online.
1st Prize: $50
2nd Prize: 20
3rd Prize: $10
Middle School (Grades 6-8) and High School (Grades 9-12) entries will be judged separately.

We have computers and WiFi available for students that need to complete their eLearning assignments or other homework.
Students living in the city of Auburn or Union township are eligible to receive a library card for no additional charge. Students living outside of our service area can purchase a Student Card for $10 or sign up for a Computer Use Only Card for no additional charge.If students are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian needs to fill out the sign-up card with a photo ID/proof of address.

Safe Sitter® Class Offered
Students Learn Babysitting Basics & More
Eckhart Public Library in partnership with DeKalb Health will offer a Safe Sitter® course for young teens ages 11-14 on Saturday, March 14 at the Eckhart Public Library from 10:00-4:45. Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Parents are invited to attend a ceremony at 4:35. The registration deadline is Thursday, March 5.
Over 650,000 adolescent babysitters have graduated from the medically-accurate
program which instills students with confidence as they learn how, why and where
injuries can happen so they can be prevented. The cost of the course is $20.
Call 925-2414 ext. 300 to register your son or daughter or your child’s babysitter.
The up-to-date curriculum provides hands-on practice in lifesaving techniques designed to prepare babysitters to act in an emergency. Babysitters also receive instruction on how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behavior and how to run their own babysitting business. They also learn basic first aid as well as how to perform infant and child choking rescue.

Literary “Doctor Who” Series
Hop into the TARDIS and take a trip through time to meet famous authors through the BBC TV series “Doctor Who” at Eckhart Public Library!
The library will offer a three-episode series in January and February featuring episodes of the popular television series that feature writers. After watching the episode, you can discuss the episode and how it relates to the author being portrayed. You are invited to read a piece or two by the author before watching each episode, but it is not a requirement. You are not required to come to all three episode showings to participate in the series.

The Teen Library will be open from 12:00 to 8:00 pm October 14th - 17th for Fall Break!

Beginning then, we will be open from 4:00 to 8:00 on Monday through Friday.
This is a slight change from previous years, but our Saturday hours will continue to be 12:00 to 5:00.

Garden at The Teen Library
Get in tune with nature this summer at the teen library!
We are always looking for volunteers willing to get their hands dirty and help our not-so-secret garden grow. You can help plant, water, weed, and enjoy all of the literal and figurative fruits of your labor.
Items grown in the teen garden will be used in cooking programs or donated to those in need. Last year, we made strawberry pancakes, mint tea, salsa, pizzas, and more!

available to all students who are Indiana residents and are eligible to
County Central United School District schools but do not live within
the library’s service area.
Student Cards are $10 per student with a maximum cost of $30 per family.

Food for Fines
The library will waive patron overdue fines with a donation of non-perishable food items. To participate in the amnesty program, library patrons must bring their donated, non-perishable food items to the circulation desk at the main library. A library staff member will collect and record the donation. Donations of non-perishable food items will be donated to area food banks for community distribution. If a patron has a large fine to be waived, we suggest donating several food items. Charges for lost items, as well as postage and processing fees, are not included in this offer. The goal of this program is two-fold: returning all lost, misplaced or recently found materials belonging to the library, and helping those less fortunate during the holidays.Happy Holidays!

Size and Scale of the Universe
Astrophysicist Kevin Manning, a former consultant with NASA, has always been passionate about astronomy, and wants to share his excitement! Dr. Manning will demonstrate the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders using hands on activities and assorted visuals.

This year you can enter to win a $50 Amazon gift card or a Flip Video camera after you've completed the other prize levels. To be counted, your books need to either be checked out from Eckhart Public Library or downloaded from our website.Â

The Eckhart Public Library is currently updating its website and the web pages of each department.Â Any suggestions you have to help us with this process should be passed to Jamie Long, EPL Webmaster.Â This webpage upgrade is being made possible through a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant.Â LSTA grants are a federally funded program administered by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.Â Funds are used to support statewide initiatives through competitive grant programs.Â The Indiana State Library oversees the LSTA program for our state.Â Funds have been allocated to provide support for digitization of Indianaâ€™s historical documents and further development of the Indiana Memory Program.
